My Pochero Adventure: Ekit’s Foodhaus

Location:  Tandang Sora St corner  Magsaysay St Villa Aurora, Cebu City (Back of Sarrosa Hotel)

What do you get when you boil beef shanks for a day until the meat almost falls off? Along with it, onions, ginger, corn cob,  bamboo shoots and peppercorns are colliding together to produce this warm, flavorful broth that can ease the pain that life gives you.

Yes you guess it right! Pochero--the Cebuano's comfort food perfect for the cold weather.

Located on a not-so-easy to find area at the back of Sarrosa hotel, a compound with a carrenderia facade and vehicles from loyal customers awaits you.

This hole in the wall rewards the dedicated, the unwavering and the faithful hungry Pochero enthusiast longing for the beefy broth.

Aside from Pochero, Ekit’s Foodhaus also has other dishes.

The Sinuglaw (Sinugba and Kinilaw) is a must have.

I will be giving 8 and half stars for the Pochero. At first taste, the soup seems to have
been boiled for 12 to 24 hours.

Tenderness is evidenced by the meat falling of the bone. The slushy bone marrow may scare the health conscious but nah...who cares?  Your Pochero experience is not complete without scooping any bone cavities.

The Sinuglaw will get 9 out of 10 stars. A perfect partner for the Pochero, the Sinuglaw has the right amount of sourness and saltiness. Also, the spices used balances the overall taste of the dish.

Beware! This food will make you consume more rice. With Ginamos (salted, fermented fish )  distributed for free on every table, one is tempted and lured into "Rice" territory.

Happy eating!!!
